Portfolio Guidelines 2007-2008
About Us

The questions below relate to your Portfolio.  Please read them closely to be sure you are meeting all of the Portfolio requirements.

Why do I keep a Portfolio?  At Ammons, Portfolios serve a dual purpose.  They provide you, the student, with a medium for pulling together work that links to the International Baccalaureate (IB) Areas of Interaction.  They also make you an active participant in the evaluation of your progress by having you reflect on work selected for inclusion.

What goes in my Portfolio?  You will build your Portfolio over your three years at Ammons.  In eighth grade, to receive the Ammons International Baccalaureate Certificate, your Portfolio must contain the following items including the information requested:
a) A Student Information Sheet
b) Annual Community & Service Logs
c) Selected work linked to each Area of Interaction
d) Student Reflection Forms on submitted work
e) Reading Reflection Forms for each AR book read
f) Two (2) Community and Service Reflection forms for each year
g) 8th grade Portfolio Reflection form
h) ATL Self-Assessment and Reflection form for each year
i) Evidence of: Parent Involvement, Extra Curricular, & School to Work Activities

When do I put work in my Portfolio? At any time during the year, you can select work that links to an Area of Interaction, complete a reflection form, and place the work in your Portfolio.

What kind of work can I select?  You may select class work, home learning assignments, assessments, or projects.  If the project is too large to fit in your Portfolio, you may attach a photo to a paper that describes the project.  Be sure the date is on all your work and don’t forget to complete and attach a Student Reflection Form.

Where do I keep my Portfolio?  In a binder, at home, in a safe place.

Tell me about Portfolio Days.   There will be several Portfolio Days throughout the year when you will collect work for your Portfolio in each class.  On Portfolio Days, you will review the contents of the Portfolio and add or remove items.  On the final Portfolio Days, you will select one piece of work from each class to remain in the Portfolio, being sure that each Area of Interaction is represented by at least one item.  Other work will be returned to your class folders.

Who grades my Portfolio?  Your Portfolio will be evaluated in Humanities (Humanities) class as a requirement for earning the International Baccalaureate Certificate in 8th grade. Be sure that all required items listed above are included for each year.  You will be able to take your portfolio with you when you move on to high school.

What if I have a question?  Ask any Humanities teacher or see Ms. Curtiellas or Mr. Clark in the Main Office.
